Friday Night Update

Friday night was a very emotional evening. We had three new people join the group.  It’s exciting to see the room fill with many challenges among the crowd.  If you desire an evening with changing circumstances you would enjoy HOPE.  Not every one is capable of handling the many challenges we face at the addiction program. Many of these students have very serious problems and represent touch and go situations.  One was at the center Friday night.

A young girl about the age of 18-19 came to the center.  She was polite and quiet.  When we got to the prayer request time she opened up to us in tears about her problems.  She is a victim of child abuse, as well as many other challenges; some were very serious.  I believe this was one of the most difficult sessions I have had at HOPE since we started in January.  It left us totally and mentally exhausted. Not since my college days at Lima Mental Hospital, working in the criminally insane department, have I been this challenged. Believe me I had to really think and remember the correct procedures in dealing with her. STOP there! See the HOLY SCRIPTURES win every time.  WE pointed to JESUS!  He is truly OUR Lord and Savior.

Please continue to pray for our Enabled Ministry…HOPE!

Enabled H.O.P.E. Update – 07.01.2010

July 1, 2010…Summer time!!!

A lot is happening at the center…Food Pantry is taking a sabbatical for the month of July.  The first Ladies Bible study has come and gone for the month until the end of July.  Tutoring program is ready to open up again, and HOPE is still open every Friday as addictions do not take a time off.

We added another addict to the program but unfortunately we are loosing several counselors for the summer.  Last Friday we had just enough counselors to meet the one-on-one addict per counselor.

We gave certificates to two of addicts for 5 weeks of sobriety.  Several other success reports include: Hamilton-Butler County Courts recognizing the HOPE addiction program and Middletown Courts recognizing program by offering pay settlements for the addict community commitments.

Our goal is to help the addict to be set free from all entanglements.  To be better Christians and be a part of the community they live.  God Bless the faithfulness of the HOPE workers.

21 lbs. in 10 weeks

H.O.P.E. International has several programs to help the afflicted.  Not all the addictions have to be drug or alcohol related.  One of our students has something to be proud of and they thank the Lord!

What’s that heavenly smell wafting down the street?  Maybe it’s pizza, or perhaps donuts or barbecue.  Wouldn’t you give your right arm or the shirt off your back for that slice of cake?  What about grandma’s apple pie with a scoop of ice cream?  Can you say no to that second piece of pizza, especially if its your favorite?  You stuff yourself and you feel like your going to burst, “just one more piece”.  Sound familiar?  You may be on your way of forming bad habits or an eating disorder.

Food addicts respond to food much like the drug or alcoholic.  The brain sends a dopamine chemical in the brain that sends you wild just to smell, taste or even the sight of the subject.  Kicking the habit or addiction to the food addictions is not easy and requires you to replace those compulsive wants to new healthy cravings.  We at HOPE can help.

We have a person taking our Bible based program that now has lost 21 pounds and feels great.(Looks great too!)  In 10 weeks they have lost 21 pounds.  Plus the greatest of all, they are now more enriched in the Bible.

Be assured that we and many other Christians do care about all who suffer from eating disorders.  This serious problem afflicts more than 1 out of 10 people at the same time in their lives.  Twice as many teens suffer from it.  Although it is most well known in females, there are millions (MILLIONS) of males that also have eating disorders.

What does the Bible have to say?

Corinthians 6:19-20     ”….Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Romans 12:1  ”…present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service”.

Deuteronomy 31:6   ” Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you.  He will not leave nor  forsake you“.

The WORD OF GOD will set you free!

Psalm 1:1-6

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf shall also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”

The Word of God will set you free! We believe this at H.O.P.E. Ministries
